al-ʾIslām
Islam (/ˈɪslɑːm/; Arabic: الإسلام, al-ʾIslām ) is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Arabic: الله Allāh) and by the teachings and normative example (called the Sunnah and composed of hadith) of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim. This religion is seen very biased and critically in western society nowadays. Most media reports are on extremism. But Islam, as every other religion, is more than that, with its 2 billion believers, its history, culture, and architecture. Taking the visual side of Islam and editing the photos to a surrealistic extend makes the viewer think about the beauty behind the prejudice. In the used process brightness and shadows are converted into colours by changing the Tone Curve to both extremes, the highlights and the shadows in a constant up and down. It is a very simple process that adds a surreal and abstract layer to the beauty and ugliness of the pictures that were taken in Morocco and Turkey. 2013 By Ramin Krause
